Delia's, Inc., styled dELiA*s, launched in 1993 as a lifestyle brand of apparel and accessories founded by two Yale University graduates. It served girls and young women through direct-mail catalogs, websites, and mall-based specialty stores, with an emphasis on Generation Y and an early use of the internet to build brand identity. In December 1997, Delia's acquired Gurl.com, and in 1999 created iTurf, a teen-focused online subsidiary that included Gurl.com. After the dot-com downturn, its internet properties were sold or closed, while Gurl.com was sold to Primedia in May 2001. Alloy Inc. acquired Delia's in 2003 for $50 million and spun it off in 2005. In December 2014, Delia's filed for Chapter 11 protection and announced the liquidation of all 95 stores. Steve Russo of Fab/Starpoint acquired the brand in 2015 and briefly revived it online. Dolls Kill later licensed the name and relaunched Delia's as a sub-brand in November 2018.
