GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Start the day with First Union, a name woven into Charlotte’s financial history for nearly a century before its 2001 transition to Wachovia. Founded in 1908 as Union National Bank, the company grew through major regional expansion and more than 90 banking-related acquisitions. This ceramic coffee mug is an easy desk or kitchen collectible for former employees, banking professionals, and anyone drawn to classic corporate names and office-culture nostalgia.
First Union began as Union National Bank, founded by H. M. Victor on June 2, 1908, as a small banking desk in a Charlotte, North Carolina, hotel lobby. A 1958 merger with First National Bank and Trust Company of Asheville created First Union National Bank of North Carolina. The company added Cameron-Brown, a mortgage banking and insurance firm, in 1964 and incorporated as First Union Corporation in 1967. A 1968 reorganization established the corporate structure used until the Wachovia merger. Following the 1985 Supreme Court decision supporting regional interstate banking legislation, First Union pursued rapid expansion, completing more than 90 banking-related acquisitions through 2001. Key deals included Atlantic National Bank, First Fidelity of Newark, CoreStates Financial of Philadelphia, Bowles Hollowell Conner and The Money Store. On September 4, 2001, First Union completed its purchase of Wachovia National Bank and became Wachovia Corporation, adopting the Wachovia name and ticker symbol. Wachovia later merged into Wells Fargo in 2010.
