GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Carry a signal from the first great MP3 era wherever you go. This Napster luggage tag nods to the service launched in June 1999 by Shawn Fanning and Sean Parker, a name that quickly traveled from college dorm networks to the center of digital music culture. It is a fitting travel detail for collectors who remember downloading discoveries, building early playlists, and watching the internet change how music moved. The later path from P2P pioneer to streaming brand makes the history even richer.
Napster launched in June 1999, created by Shawn Fanning and Sean Parker as a peer-to-peer application centered on MP3 audio sharing. Initially a Windows service, it gained an official Mac client after Napster acquired Black Hole Media's Macster in December 1999. Its user-friendly interface and centralized index made it a defining name in early online music culture, while copyright litigation brought major pressure. Lawsuits from recording companies, Metallica, and Dr. Dre led to an injunction, and Napster shut down its network in July 2001. After a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in June 2002, Roxio acquired Napster's brand and logos that November for $5.3 million. Roxio relaunched Napster in October 2003 as a licensed download and subscription service. Best Buy bought it in 2008, then sold it to Rhapsody in 2011. Rhapsody adopted the Napster name in 2016. Ownership later moved to MelodyVR, Hivemind and Algorand, and Infinite Reality, which acquired it in March 2025.
