CompUSA

Ghost Corp Apparel — resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Founded in Texas in 1984 as Soft Warehouse, CompUSA grew into one of America’s biggest computer and electronics retailers. By the 1990s, its massive stores were packed with PCs, software, printers, components, accessories, and enough mysterious cables to convince you that you definitely needed three more.

At its peak, CompUSA operated more than 200 locations and became a go-to destination for the rapidly growing personal-computer market.

Then online shopping got faster, competition got tougher, and the giant computer superstore started running out of reasons for people to leave the house. CompUSA closed most of its stores in 2007, and the remaining business and brand were acquired by Systemax in 2008. The storefront name was eventually retired in favor of TigerDirect.

From PC superstore to “remember when we bought software in boxes?”

Explore our CompUSA collection celebrating one of the great vanished landmarks of the personal-computer boom.
