Put Business Express Airlines on display with a vanity license plate inspired by one of the Northeast’s most recognizable regional-airline stories. Business Express evolved from Atlantic Air, expanded through Pilgrim Airlines and Mall Airways, and became known as BizEX or BEX during its jet-focused 1990s chapter. With ties to Boston Logan, New England commuter routes, and the Fly BizEx Jets slogan, this design gives collectors a distinctive tribute to an airline absorbed into American Eagle in 2000.
Business Express Airlines was an American regional airline founded as Atlantic Air in 1982 and renamed Business Express in 1985 to appeal to business commuters. Often called Business Express, BizEX, or BEX, the carrier grew through acquisitions, purchasing Pilgrim Airlines in February 1986; Pilgrim had previously acquired NewAir of New Haven. The transaction broadened access to New York and Washington, D.C. markets. Business Express later acquired Mall Airways in September 1989, adding Canadian routes to Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa, and acquired Brockway Air turboprop equipment that December. It became an early Delta Connection carrier, later added a Northwest Airlink affiliation, and joined American programs as American Connection and then American Eagle. Its 1990s jet operations used BAe 146-200s and Avro RJ70s. AMR Eagle Holding announced its purchase of the airline in December 1998. On December 1, 2000, Business Express ceased independent operations when they transferred to American Eagle.
