Layer up with a tribute to the Great Northern Railway, the James J. Hill-built system that connected Saint Paul to Seattle and crossed Montana through Marias Pass. Great Northern’s northern route, Glacier National Park ties, and Empire Builder service made it an enduring railroad name. This unisex quarter zip pullover suits cool platform mornings, road trips, museum visits, and everyday wear for people who appreciate the history behind America’s great rail corridors.

The Great Northern Railway was an American Class I railroad created by Canadian-American entrepreneur James J. Hill from the Saint Paul & Pacific Railroad. Hill's investment group took control of the earlier road on March 13, 1878, and on September 18, 1889, he renamed the Minneapolis and St. Cloud Railway the Great Northern Railway. On February 1, 1890, the St. Paul, Minneapolis and Manitoba Railway, Montana Central Railway, and other lines were consolidated into the system. Its main line ran from Saint Paul, Minnesota, to Seattle, Washington, becoming the northernmost transcontinental railroad in the United States. The route crossed Marias Pass in Montana and reached Seattle in 1893. Great Northern promoted settlement and Glacier National Park, while serving communities and resource industries across the northern states. Its premier train, the Empire Builder, was introduced in 1929 in honor of Hill. On March 2, 1970, Great Northern merged with Northern Pacific, Chicago, Burlington and Quincy, and Spokane, Portland and Seattle to create Burlington Northern Railroad. Burlington Northern later merged with Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe in 1996 to form Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway.
