This backpack is made for fans of that all-in-one entertainment-store era, former employees, and collectors who still remember the chain’s final stores closing in 2016.
Hastings Entertainment, also known as Hastings, was an American entertainment retail chain based in Amarillo, Texas. Its roots reached back to 1968, when West Texas News began as a newsstand provider. That business later became a division of Western Merchandisers, Inc., a books and music wholesaler. Western Merchandisers became a Wal-Mart Stores subsidiary in 1990, then was sold to Anderson Media Corporation in 1994 and operated as Anderson Merchandisers. Hastings expanded its merchandise mix as physical media retail changed, adding a Diamond Comic Distributors account in 2010 and enlarging comic sections across its stores. It also opened Sun Adventure Sport in Amarillo in 2010 and later in Lubbock, while Tradesmart opened in Littleton, Colorado, in 2011. Draw Another Circle LLC acquired Hastings in July 2014. After a 2016 bankruptcy filing and auction, liquidation firms Hilco Merchant Resources and Gordon Brothers Retail Partners closed all remaining stores by the end of October 2016. Calendar Holdings LLC later acquired Hastings intellectual property.
