Lehman Brothers Kids Tee / T-Shirt
This Lehman Brothers kids tee connects a young wearer to a surprising American business story that started in an 1844 Montgomery dry-goods store. The company grew from accepting cotton as payment to building ties with New York commodity and securities markets. Made for family outings, history-focused school days, and future finance fans, it offers a lighthearted way to share an interest in Wall Street history, corporate design, and the changing story of American enterprise.
Lehman Brothers began in Montgomery, Alabama, where Henry Lehman opened the H. Lehman dry-goods store in 1844. After brothers Emanuel and Mayer joined, the business became Lehman Brothers in 1850. The firm accepted cotton as payment and developed a cotton-trading operation; after Henry died of yellow fever in 1855, the remaining brothers continued in commodities. A New York branch opened at 119 Liberty Street in 1858, and the headquarters later moved to New York City. Lehman helped found the New York Cotton Exchange in 1870, joined the Coffee Exchange by 1883 and the New York Stock Exchange in 1887. It shifted toward securities underwriting in the early 1900s. In 1977 it merged with Kuhn, Loeb & Co. as Lehman Brothers Kuhn Loeb Inc. American Express acquired the firm in 1984; a 1994 IPO created Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. Barclays acquired major North American investment-banking and trading operations after the 2008 Chapter 11 filing, while Nomura acquired franchises in Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Middle East.
