GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Take Marathon Oil history from the tee box to the clubhouse. The company began in 1887 as The Ohio Oil Company in Lima, Ohio, then acquired the Marathon brand in 1930, creating a name recognized across decades of American fuel and energy culture. These golf balls are for players and collectors who appreciate a clean connection between sport, industrial heritage, and classic corporate identity. A memorable choice for rounds, tournaments, golf trips, and gifts for oil-patch golfers or petroleum-history fans.
Marathon Oil began in Lima, Ohio, in 1887 as The Ohio Oil Company. Standard Oil acquired the business in 1889, and Ohio Oil became independent again following the 1911 breakup of Standard Oil. In 1930, Ohio Oil acquired Transcontinental Oil Company and its Marathon retail fuel brand, a transition that gave the company the name seen on generations of petroleum signage and merchandise. The company adopted the Marathon Oil Company name in 1962, when Speedway 79 and Marathon fuel stations were consolidated under the Marathon name. U.S. Steel acquired Marathon in January 1982; USX Corporation then served as parent of U.S. Steel and Marathon Oil. Marathon re-emerged as Marathon Oil Corporation through the USX separation in 2001 and subsequent 2002 renaming. In 2011, it spun off downstream operations as Marathon Petroleum. Based in Houston from 1990, Marathon Oil operated as an exploration-focused company before ConocoPhillips acquired it in November 2024.
