Set down a drink beside a story from the skies with a Piedmont Airlines ceramic coaster. It recalls the carrier born from Piedmont Aviation in Winston-Salem, its 1948 scheduled DC-3 service, and its evolution into a Charlotte-centered jet network. For collectors of airline history, North Carolina heritage, and memorable American carriers, this coaster offers a small everyday tribute to Piedmont's route through deregulation, Empire Airlines, and its 1989 transition into USAir.

Piedmont Airlines grew from Piedmont Aviation, created in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in 1940 when Thomas Henry Davis purchased Camel City Flying Service. The business initially repaired aircraft and trained pilots before Davis sought authority for southeastern passenger service in 1944. Authorization arrived January 1, 1948, and Piedmont's first scheduled flight traveled from Wilmington, North Carolina, to Cincinnati on February 20, using a Douglas DC-3. The carrier expanded from its early southeastern routes into a broad eastern and national network, adding jets in 1967 and developing a major hub at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport after deregulation. Piedmont acquired Utica-based Empire Airlines in 1985, adding routes and Fokker F28 aircraft. By 1989 it had hubs in Baltimore, Charlotte, Dayton, and Syracuse, and operated Boeing 767-200ER service from Charlotte to London Gatwick. USAir, formerly Allegheny Airlines, absorbed Piedmont on August 5, 1989. Its Charlotte hub continued through US Airways and later American Airlines.

Ceramic coaster engraved with a simple, vintage-style wordmark that brings a quiet, archival charm to a coffee table or office desk. The cool ceramic top takes heat and condensation with calm confidence while the cork backing keeps cups steady and surfaces safe. It sits easily beside a well-loved mug during long work sessions or late-night reading, a small, steady surface that feels both practical and quietly nostalgic.
