GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Top off cold-weather days with a nod to The Wiz, the New York City electronics chain founded in 1977. From its early stores to its better-known Nobody Beats The Wiz era, the brand became part of the Northeast’s retail soundtrack through memorable advertising and major local sports sponsorships. This beanie is for collectors, former shoppers, and anyone who remembers the excitement of a Wiz storefront, a game-day ad, or a neighborhood shopping trip.

The Wiz was an electronics-store chain founded in New York City in 1977 by Stephen Jemal, who included brothers Lawrence, Marvin, and Douglas Jemal in the business. Operating primarily across New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, the chain later adopted its familiar advertising slogan as its official name, Nobody Beats The Wiz. During the early and middle 1990s, it became a prominent sponsor of New York-area teams including the Yankees, Knicks, Mets, Nets, Rangers, Devils, and Islanders, while also sponsoring the Orioles, Flyers, Whalers, and Canadiens. Following a rapid expansion from about 20 locations to more than 80 in under a year, the company filed for bankruptcy in 1998 and Cablevision bought it for $80 million. At its peak, the retailer had 94 stores, 2,000 employees, and $1.4 billion in revenue across five states, plus music-only stores in Maryland and the Washington, D.C. area. Cablevision later dropped the slogan, and the chain closed permanently in 2003. Marvin Jemal subsequently opened The Zone in several former Wiz sites; P.C. Richard acquired Wiz assets, chiefly its name, in September 2003.

This cuffed beanie carries a lived-in street energy—soft, warm, and quietly bold. The low-profile embroidery sits on the cuff like a personal insignia: a small, slightly distressed logo with a touch of red that reads as both vintage and current. It slips on easily and stays put through commutes, late-night walks, and chilly market runs, adding a subtle graphic edge without shouting.

Wear it with a worn denim jacket, layered knit, or an oversized coat. It works for creatives who like to curate a look that’s casual but considered, for city cyclists who need dependable warmth, or for anyone who favors compact, tactile details. The hypoallergenic acrylic knit keeps things comfortable against the skin while the 12" cuff gives you styling flexibility—fold it high for warmth or roll it low for a slouchier silhouette. This is a small, everyday piece that quietly completes an outfit and ages into its own personality.
