White Star emphasized comfortable travel for upper-class and steerage passengers rather than speed alone. It merged with rival Cunard Line in 1934 as Cunard-White Star Line. Cunard purchased White Star's share in 1950, continuing as a single company until 2005; Cunard is now part of Carnival Corporation. Modern Cunard ships retain the phrase White Star Service for their expected level of customer service.
