Tee up a conversation about Wall Street history with these Bear Stearns Golf Balls. Bear Stearns began as an equity trading house in 1923 and grew into a major American investment bank before its 2008 merger with JPMorgan Chase. The firm’s name still calls to mind Manhattan finance, brokerage culture, and the dramatic transformation of the financial industry during the crisis era. Made for golfers who also follow business history, these collectible golf balls are a distinctive choice for corporate outings, alumni gatherings, and finance-minded gifts.
The Bear Stearns Companies, Inc. was an American holding company with investment banking, securities trading, and brokerage operations. It was founded on May 1, 1923, as an equity trading house by Joseph Ainslie Bear, Robert B. Stearns, and Harold C. Mayer. The firm survived the Wall Street Crash of 1929 without employee layoffs, opened its first branch in Chicago in 1933, and established its first international office in Amsterdam in 1955. Bear Stearns became publicly traded in 1985 and grew into the fifth-largest investment bank in the United States. Its world headquarters stood at 383 Madison Avenue in Manhattan, New York City. Led during key periods by Alan C. Greenberg, James Cayne, and Alan Schwartz, the firm operated across corporate finance, trading, asset management, clearing, and private client services. During the 2007–2008 financial crisis, exposure to subprime mortgages and a liquidity run undermined the company. Bear Stearns was merged with JPMorgan Chase in 2008, and JPMorgan stopped using the Bear Stearns name in January 2010.
