Set your phone beside a piece of railroad history with this foldable display stand honoring the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. The Rock Island Line grew from its Chicago-to-Rock Island route into a far-reaching system serving the Midwest, Plains, and Southwest. Its later identity, The Rock, remains a favorite among collectors and railfans. A useful desk companion for work, travel, train videos, calls, and displays of affection for Rocket-era railroading.

The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad was a Class I American railroad best known as the Rock Island Line and, late in its history, The Rock. Its roots reached to the Rock Island and La Salle Railroad, incorporated in Illinois on February 27, 1847. Construction began in Chicago in 1851, and the line reached Rock Island on February 22, 1854, creating the first rail connection between Chicago and the Mississippi River. The company acquired the Mississippi and Missouri Railroad in 1866 to form the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad Company. At its 1970 extent, the system operated 7,183 route miles across much of the Midwest, Plains and Southwest. Its passenger identity included Rocket streamliners, introduced with diesel power in 1937, and the jointly operated Golden State service with Southern Pacific. A proposed Union Pacific merger begun in 1964 collapsed in 1974. Following bankruptcy and a final rebranding as The Rock, operations ended in 1980. The corporate name later became Chicago Pacific Corporation, acquired Hoover, and was acquired by Maytag in 1988.
