Indian Motorcycle Youth Hoodie / Sweatshirt
Built around a name with more than a century of American motorcycle history, this Indian Motorcycle youth hoodie / sweatshirt gives young fans a way to represent the legend. The story reaches from Hendee Manufacturing in 1897 and the first 1901 motorcycle to Springfield-built Scouts and Chiefs, racing milestones, and later revivals in Gilroy, Kings Mountain, Minnesota, and Iowa. A strong everyday layer for future riders, family outings, and classic-bike fans.
Indian Motorcycle traces its origins to Hendee Manufacturing Company, founded by George M. Hendee in 1897 to build bicycles. Hendee and Oscar Hedstrom developed an early motorcycle in Middletown, Connecticut; the first prototype was completed on May 25, 1901, and publicly demonstrated in Springfield, Massachusetts, on June 1. Public sales began in 1902, and the company adopted its deep red signature color in 1904. Known as Hendee Manufacturing until 1923, the Springfield business became a major motorcycle maker, with the Scout introduced in 1920 and the Chief in 1922. Indian merged with Du Pont Motors in 1930 and acquired Ace Motor Corporation in 1927, bringing four-cylinder production to Springfield. Manufacturing ended in 1953, followed by several trademark owners and revival attempts. Production returned in Gilroy, California, in 1999, then Kings Mountain, North Carolina, in 2006. Polaris acquired the brand in 2011 and moved operations to Minnesota and Iowa. In February 2026, Carolwood LP became the controlling owner after Polaris sold a majority stake.
