This K&B youth hoodie celebrates a name woven into New Orleans memory. Katz & Besthoff began at 732 Canal Street in 1905 and expanded into a widely recognized Gulf Coast drug store chain, with purple presentation that became instantly familiar to locals. The design gives young wearers a connection to that hometown story, from old shopping memories to the K&B Plaza name that remains part of the city. A comfortable-looking tribute to regional history and family tradition.
K&B, short for Katz & Besthoff, began in 1905 when Gustave Katz and Sydney J. Besthoff partnered at 732 Canal Street in New Orleans. From that start, the business expanded throughout the twentieth century into a drug store chain serving the United States Gulf Coast region. Its stores became strongly associated with a distinctive purple presentation, used on signs, cash registers, employee uniforms, and other store elements; the shade entered local usage as "K&B purple." The chain sold a broad range of private-label merchandise, including household goods, liquor, and signature ice creams, and operated an independent credit card program with strict approval requirements. K&B later based its corporate operations at K&B Plaza near Lee Circle in the New Orleans Central Business District, after buying the building in the mid-1970s. The former headquarters and warehouse at 900 Camp Street was donated at the start of the 1980s for the Contemporary Arts Center. Rite Aid purchased K&B assets in 1997 and rebranded the chain, while K&B Plaza retained its familiar name.
