Kaiser-Frazer launched in 1945, made its mark at Willow Run, shifted production to Toledo, and later became Kaiser Jeep. Kaiser Motors began as Kaiser-Frazer Corporation, a joint venture established in August 1945 by the Henry J. Kaiser Company and Graham-Paige Motors Corporation. California industrialist Henry J. Kaiser and Graham-Paige chief executive Joseph W. Frazer combined resources to enter the postwar automobile market. Kaiser and Frazer cars were built at Willow Run, Michigan, with more than 11,000 shipped by the end of 1946 and the 300,000th car completed in summer 1948. The Frazer marque ended after the 1951 models, while the Henry J compact arrived for 1951. In 1953, stockholders renamed the business Kaiser Motors Corporation. That year it acquired assets of Willys-Overland, and production moved from Willow Run to Toledo, Ohio. Kaiser passenger-car production in the United States ended after the 1955 model year, although South American operations continued into the 1960s. The business became Kaiser Jeep in 1963; Kaiser Industries sold its auto interests to American Motors Corporation in 1970.
