Kaiser Motors grew from Kaiser-Frazer Corporation, a joint venture established in August 1945 by the Henry J. Kaiser Company and Graham-Paige Motors Corporation. The company produced Kaiser and Frazer automobiles at Willow Run, Michigan, with more than 11,000 cars shipped to dealers and distributors by the end of 1946. Its 300,000th car left the line in summer 1948. Frazer production ended after the 1951 models, while the Henry J compact entered production in 1950. Kaiser-Frazer also supplied Allstate-branded cars for select Sears Auto Centers from 1952 through 1953. In 1953, stockholders renamed the business Kaiser Motors Corporation. That year, the company acquired specified Willys-Overland assets and liabilities; its Kaiser Manufacturing division became Willys Motors Incorporated. Production operations shifted from Willow Run to Toledo, Ohio, and Kaiser-badged cars, including the Kaiser Darrin, continued through 1955. The corporation became Kaiser Industries in 1955, adopted the Kaiser Jeep name in 1963, and its auto business was sold to American Motors Corporation in 1970.
