White Star Line Ceramic Ornament
Mark the season with a ceramic ornament celebrating White Star Line and the lasting allure of the ocean-liner era. From its Liverpool roots to Thomas Ismay’s 1868 revival and the North Atlantic voyages of Oceanic, Olympic, and Britannic, the company’s story remains part of maritime history. Hang it among travel keepsakes, nautical décor, or a holiday collection as a thoughtful reminder of historic ships, port cities, and the White Star Service tradition.
White Star Line was a British shipping line associated with passenger and cargo services between the British Empire and the United States. The first company using the name was founded in Liverpool, England, in 1845 by John Pilkington and Henry Wilson, initially serving the UK-Australia trade. After financial difficulties and bankruptcy in 1867, Thomas Ismay bought the house flag, trade name and goodwill on 18 January 1868 and established headquarters at Albion House, Liverpool. Working with Harland and Wolff, the reorganized line developed North Atlantic services between Liverpool and New York. Its Oceanic-class ships entered service from 1871, while later vessels included Britannic, Germanic, Teutonic, Majestic, Olympic, Titanic and Britannic. White Star emphasized comfortable travel for upper-class and steerage passengers rather than speed alone. It merged with rival Cunard Line in 1934 as Cunard-White Star Line. Cunard purchased White Star's share in 1950, continuing as a single company until 2005; Cunard is now part of Carnival Corporation. Modern Cunard ships retain the phrase White Star Service for their expected level of customer service.
